During the Soviet era.


Until the early 1980s. trade union organization in the port of Odesa was officially called Portkomflot (Port Committee of the fleet) and was the part of the structure of the most powerful trade union of the South of Ukraine - Black Sea Shipping Company of the Baskomfleet.


Its main function - protecting the interests of working people - carried out by Portkomflot with the help of exempted workers - local committee chairmen, and also of standing committees in the areas of : housing, labor dispute, organization of socialist competition, crime prevention, cultural work, etc.


From 1966 to 1976 Vasily Fomin was the chaiman of the commettee. Born in a poor peasant family, Fomin at the age of 13 started his career as a sailor on a ship sailing the Volga-Caspian state fish trest and worked his way up to the captain on board the Odesa port fleet. An experienced manager, a man of high moral and professional qualities, Basil Erofeevich enjoyed great prestige in the enterprise. On his initiative, the port was opened a sanatorium, recreation center, landscaped and expanded summer camp. In 1986-87. Basil Erofeevich (occupying the post of Chief of Staff port) actively participated in the translation to the new system OMTP organization management and payroll, on-site supervised the construction of several apartment buildings in Kiev region for the workers of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. Since the beginning of economic and political reforms in the Soviet Union entered into history as the "Gorbachev's perestroika," the role of trade unions in the labor collectives of life increased significantly.

The most prominent representative of the galaxy of sports organizers OMTP is a master of sports of the USSR George Kunda. Not pursuing for personal records, G.Kunda many years has devoted the development of mass physical culture on water transport - participated in the organization of Olympic games and championships CA DSO "Vodnik", led by a sports club "dockers", developed sporting facilities in the port of Odesa. By the way, G.Kunda - the only Ukrainian gymnastics instructor, who was awarded the Order of the State ("Honor") for the introduction of professional-applied physical training in the training of dockers-machine operators.


Trade union port in the 1990 - 2000s. 


After the collapse of the USSR, when the economy of majority post-Soviet states worried deep crisis, the administration headed by OMTP N.Pavlyukom able to quickly, almost a year and a half to translate economic activity on a market-based organization. When in March 2006 the Odesa City Council has blocked the development of the investment program of the State Enterprise "OMTP" ("Concept 2010"), to the forefront of the struggle for the implementation of vital projects for the community there are new people: deputy. The year 2006 was marked by a number of attempts at hostile takeovers of the largest ports of Ukraine. When in 2008 the draft Master Plan of Odesa has been included on the removal of cargo berths for the hell of urban development, as a united front against the highly damaging to the idea of ​​Odesa were the administration of the State Enterprise "OMTP", trade unions and youth enterprise. By the autumn of that year plans, which were against the dockers were removed from the agenda.


Also in 2008, and in 2009 the trade union committee of SE "OMTP" decisively, effectively and competently defended the interests of the workforce in a growing global economic crisis, recognizing the enormous responsibility to preserve the glorious traditions of the Odesa port.




In a situation of economic crisis (starting with the fall of 2008) the trade union committee of Odesa port solves the problems of preserving social gains of the workforce, ensuring safe working conditions and health of port workers, the full support of veterans and the disabled.


Some decrease in the volume of cargo processed at the berths, led to a reduction of budget revenues and port, respectively, reducing the financial resources to implement these programs.


However, thanks to the mobilization of funds from other budget items of the trade union, as well as by the administration of the State Enterprise "OMTP" trade union committee managed to maintain the basic benefits package of port at the proper level. This is especially true of health programs. Operates and provides all the necessary health care part of the port, which turns out to be therapeutic, surgical and other aid workers ports, stevedoring companies and unemployed veterans. Maintained a program of health insurance of employees of SE "OMTP" program "ER." Basic and Clinical Center for the dockers is 411th Military Hospital.

The trade union committee in charge of the port of mass cultural and sports activities in the enterprise. Allocated funds for sports competitions, sports days and holidays. It turns out charitable assistance to orphanages, boarding schools, the disabled and other vulnerable categories of citizens.


Running the program "Care" for the social protection of veterans of the company. In general, despite the crisis, which is now experiencing the whole country and the enterprise of the maritime industry in particular, the administration and the trade union committee of Odesa port manages to keep a high level of social guarantees for port workers and execute all items of the Collective Agreement for the establishment of safe working conditions, the timely payment of wages, vacation time, hospitals, health care workers and veterans of the port, the organization of rehabilitation and sanatorium treatment, the interest-free repayable loans and so on.


The ASEAN topical issue - the preservation of social achievements of workers in the upcoming reform of the enterprises of the maritime industry and labor law as such. The adoption of the new edition of the "Law on Ports in Ukraine" and the new Labour Code, in the form as set out in the projects will inevitably lead to infringement of the rights of wage workers and the curtailment of social programs in the workplace. The trade union committee of Odesa port, together with the trade unions of other Ukrainian ports, making every effort to make adjustments to these regulations.
